PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – In its final home tune-up of the season, the Plattsburgh State volleyball team fell in straight sets to St. Lawrence (25-22, 25-18, 25-17) on Thursday night.
The Cardinals drop to 7-15 on the year while the Saints improve to 13-11.
Prior to the start of the match, the Cardinals' two seniors,
Amanda Robinson and
Emily Miller were honored for their service over their respective time periods playing on the Plattsburgh State volleyball team.
The first set began with each team exchanging points up until the score stood at 10-10. The Saints would score five of the next six points to build a comfortable lead. Following a long point that resulted with a termination by
Emily Miller, the Cardinals moved to within 2 points at 23-21. Plattsburgh State scored the next point to cut it to one, but two straight errors gave St. Lawrence a 1-0 set lead.
Despite hitting at a .435 clip in set two, the Cardinals were unable to come up with points at the right times, falling behind by as many as seven points early. St. Lawrence put together its best effort of the night in the second, hitting .577 in the frame.
The final set was a wire to wire victory for the Saints, as they scored most of its points in bunches of three and four straight. The Cardinals had no answer for the Saints' aggressive offensive attack.
For Plattsburgh State,
Sam Colombo finished with team-highs of 11 kills and eight digs.
Emily Miller added six kills, and
Sydney Gabriel dished out a game-high 30 assists.
St. Lawrence got much of its offense from Lexi Brown as she finished with 12 kills on 21 attempts, hitting on .476 percent of her shots. Mariah Dignan collected 11 digs, while Kate Kull had 26 assists.
The Cardinals' next matches will come next weekend as the final round of SUNYAC pool play will take place at SUNY New Paltz. Plattsburgh State's first match will be against Oneonta on Friday, October 23
rd at 5 p.m.
