Cardinals Stomp Bears 6-2 behind Two Goals from Gorman and Brenton

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team started its second half of the SUNYAC schedule picking up right where they left off, with a 6-2 victory over Potsdam.

Plattsburgh State improves to 9-1-0 in the SUNYAC and 13-4-1 overall as they remain the top dog in the SUNYAC standings.

Potsdam started the scoring Friday night in the first period when former Cardinal Zach Blake scored his fifth of the season.

Blake shoveled home a rebound goal off a Trevor Cope shot from the blue line.

However, 42 seconds later Connor Gorman would score what would be his first of a two goal night.

Gorman was stationed far post when Kevin Emmerling connected with him picking up the helper in the process.

Plattsburgh State would gain its first lead in the second period when an Anthony Calabrese wrist shot trickled through Bears goalie Jon Hall to make it 2-1.

Potsdam would respond ten minutes as Jake Rivera would tally one on a wrist shot of his own from right in the middle of the slot.

The Cardinals would strike back with just over a minute left in the second period to regain the lead that they would not relinquish.

Zach Popp pressured a Potsdam defender and forced him into making a turnover in his own zone where Popp would then gain control of the puck sliding a pass from left end line to right in front of the net for Gorman who would send it five-hole on Hall and into the back of the net.

The third period was all Cardinals as they would tally three goals to cement their win over the Bears 6-2.

Brenton stole the show in the third as he tallied two goals back-to-back in the last frame.

Brenton's first goal came of a rebound opportunity that he would jam home while his second goal he would snipe one glove high on Hall from the left dot.

Connor Toomey would tally his seventh goal of the season with just 44 seconds left on a breakaway from the penalty box.

Brady Rouleau started in net for the Cardinals making 20 saves on 22 shots while his counterpart Hall made 48 saves on 54 shots.

Plattsburgh will finish up its regular season home games on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. against Brockport and Geneseo as they look to extend their SUNYAC lead.
