PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Twelve Cardinals tallied multiple points as the top-ranked Plattsburgh State women's hockey team cruised to a 12-1 win at Chatham in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West contest Saturday night.
Plattsburgh State scored four goals in each period en route to its 20th victory of the season. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 20-1-1 overall and 12-1-0 in the conference. Chatham drops to 4-16-2 on the year and 3-10-0 in the ECAC West.
Katelyn Turk opened the scoring for the Cardinals with an unassisted goal at the 3:14 mark of the first period. Just under 10 minutes later, Alyssa Parke scored the eventual game-winning goal from Morgan MacInnis and Jordan Lipson. Bridget Balisy and Andrea Ziesmann each added goals late in the opening frame to hand Plattsburgh State a commanding 4-0 lead after one period of play.
With just 1:35 gone in the second, Balisy netted her second of the night from Shannon Stewart and Allison Era to give the Cardinals a 5-0 lead. Plattsburgh State continued to pour on the offense as Parke tallied her second of the game before Jenny Kistner and Tyne Gove picked up goals later in the period.
Jordan Caldwell stretched the lead to 9-0 at the 5:17 mark of the third period with her 10th of the season but Chatham answered back at 8:40 when McKenzie Haskins scored her first of the year to break up the shutout.
It was all Plattsburgh State the rest of the way with Gove, Chelsea VanGlahn and Mia Favretto finding the back of the net to reach the 12-1 final.
Balisy led the offense with two goals and two assists. Stewart, Caldwell and Gove contributed three points apiece while Favretto, Lipson, Ziesmann, Parke, VanGlahn, MacInnis, Kistner and Giovanna Senese each registered a pair of points in the win.
The Cardinals outshot the Cougars, 56-9, including a 20-1 margin in the second period. Plattsburgh State went 0-for-2 on the power play.
Ally Ross earned the win for Plattsburgh State, making eight saves to improve to 3-0-0 on the year. Chatham's Kaitlyn Smith suffered the loss, recording 31 stops through the first two periods. Megan Buchanan stopped 13 of the 17 shots she faced in the third period for the Cougars.
Plattsburgh State and Chatham wrap up the two-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
