Men’s Hockey Drops First SUNYAC Game to Rival Oswego State, 3-1

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Men's Hockey team returned to SUNYAC play Friday night experiencing something they haven't felt in their first seven conference games as the Cardinals fell to rival Oswego State 3-1.

Oswego State started the scoring just over midway through the first period when Chris Waterstreet skated from along the right side boards into the slot ripping past Cardinals goaltender Brady Rouleau.

In the second period Oswego State would add to its total on a Chris Raguseo slap shot from the left point at 2:18 into the middle frame which would end Rouleau's night as junior Spencer Finney would come on in relief.

Plattsburgh State would claw back in the third to try to make things interesting when senior Mark Constantine scored his third of the season with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.

Constantine was just above the goal line in the left corner when he rifled the puck towards the net. The puck deflected off a Laker skater before ending up into the net.

The Lakers would respond quickly however to regain their two goal advantage.

Captain, Bobby Gertsakis would score his second of the season on the power play exactly three minutes after the Cardinals tallied their first.

Alex Botten slid a pass to Gertsakis on the blue line in the middle of the ice. The senior then sent a wrist shot on goal that beat Finney blocker side.

On the night Lakers goaltender Matt Zawadzki finished with 30 saves on 31 shots as he picked up his first win of the season.

Rouleau gets credited with his second-consecutive defeat, allowing two goals on 14 shots in just over 22 minutes of play. Finney finished the game with 22 saves on 23 shots in the final 35 minutes of the game.

With the loss #4 Plattsburgh State suffers their second loss in three games and is now 8-2-0 (7-1-0 SUNYAC). #8 Oswego State got back on the right track as they were 0-1-2 in its three games prior and are now 6-1-2 (4-1-1 SUNYAC).

The Cardinals will get a chance Saturday night to right the ship against SUNYAC foe SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m. in the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
