Cards Crush Cadets, 6-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.  – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team finished the 2014 regular season at home with a dominating 6-0 win over the Norwich Cadets Tuesday afternoon.

The Cardinals controlled play all match as they fired shot after shot at Norwich goalkeeper Amanda Harris who concluded the game with 19 saves.

Plattsburgh struck the scoreboard first in the 13th minute as team-leader Lindsey Bushey scored her 12th goal of the season on an assist from Cammey Keyser.

Roles would be reversed a mere two minutes later when Keyser scored her third of the season as Bushey picked up the assist to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.

Cassidy Clavet would tally her fifth in the 32nd minute from a beautiful through ball from Anissa Hartmann that sent Clavet past the Cadets defense for an easy tap in as the Cardinals led 3-0 going into the half.

Plattsburgh would tally another goal of a corner kick in the 53rd minute as Devin McMahon's service in the box connected with Kendall Mercedes head giving her, her first goal of the season.

Kelly Siry would then tally the final two goals of the game as she scored less than two minutes after Mercedes and then again in the 83rd minute.

Siry's first goal was from a Megan Colby pass as Siry raced down the right side of the field beating the defense before sending in a shot just inside the 18 that beat Harris over her head.

The Amityville, N.Y., product scored her second goal off a rebound where Harris mishandled the initial shot. The junior was able to beat Harris back to the ball and send it into the back of the net before the goalie could recover.

The Cardinals out shot the Cadets 40-8 including 25-2 on goal and had eight corner kicks to the Cadets zero.

Plattsburgh finished the regular season at 9-7-1 (4-4-1 SUNYAC). The Cardinals went an impressive 6-1-1 at home and improved to a .559 overall win percentage from a .333 overall percentage last year.

The Cardinals now get ready to gear up for the SUNYAC Tournament as they travel to Oneonta Saturday to play a SUNYAC Quarterfinals match at 1 p.m. Every game from here on out for Plattsburgh will be an elimination match as they look to make a deep run in the SUNYAC Tournament.
