Knights Clip Cardinals, 1-0

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team's efforts to try to secure a State University of New York Athletic Conference tournament bid for the first time in four years hit a snag as the Cardinals fell 1-0 to #23 Geneseo.

Its been that kind of season for the Cardinals as their road woes and conceding early goals continue to haunt them.

Friday was no different as Geneseo netted the lone goal of the match in the 9th minute when Meaghan Johnston scored her second goal of the season.

Johnston collected the ball of a defender before sending a shot past Cardinal goalkeeper Danielle Schmitt from the top of the box.

Schmitt did all she could do for the Cardinals to keep them in the game as she made six saves on the day.

Geneseo outshot Plattsburgh 12-4 and had a 5-0 corner kick disparity.

Plattsburgh is now 7-7-1 (3-4-1 SUNYAC) while the Knights improve to 13-2-2 (6-1-1) and sit alone on top of the SUNYAC standings.

The postseason is not out of question for the Cardinals either though as they fell into a tie at sixth in the SUNYAC standings after starting the day in fifth.

The Cardinals are tied with Brockport at 10 points each and will square off against the Golden Eagles tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a spot in the SUNYAC tournament on the line. Winner secures a spot into the tournament; loser will have played its last SUNYAC opponent of the 2014 season.
