Cardinals Rout Buffalo State 4-1 on Senior Day

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon with a decisive victory over Buffalo State at the Field House Complex.

The Cardinals snapped a couple of bad streaks that have plagued them recently in the process of defeating the Bengals 4-1.

For the first time in four games, Plattsburgh struck the board first and in the first half. The Cardinals also ended its three-game losing streak with Saturday's victory.

The Cardinals struck twice within the first five minutes of action to take a 2-0 lead that the Bengals would not be able to overcome.

The first strike came in the third minute when Madeline Saccocio found the back of the net from a Jill Tardelli cross. Two minutes later Ashlie Guiness scored her first goal of the season with her head on a Lindsey Bushey corner kick.

The rest of the first period would not produce anymore scoring but in the 62nd minute the Cardinals were at it again. This time SUNYAC goal leader, Bushey, decided to take one herself. She took a free kick from about 35 yards out and laced it far post past the Buffalo State goalkeeper Nicole Torres. Bushey finished the afternoon with a three point day.

Buffalo State would find the back of the net in the 83rd minute when Meghan Allen linked up with Micky Tinnerman who finished it off by beating Cardinal goalie Danielle Schmitt. Allen sent a through ball past the Plattsburgh defense sending Tinnerman all alone with Schmitt before shooting far post and in.

Plattsburgh would answer quickly though taking advantage of another free kick. This time junior Cassidy Clavet would fire a shot on net from 30 yards out that deflected off of new Bengals goalkeeper Jessica McCarey before crossing the line.

Plattsburgh would own a 15-7 shot and 3-0 corner kick advantages over Buffalo State. Schmitt finished the day with five saves while the Torres made four and McCarey collected one.

With the win in the tightly packed SUNYAC standings that sees forth through ninth place all within three points, the Cardinals (7-6-1, 3-3-1 SUNYAC) moved up into fifth place while Buffalo State (6-7-2, 3-4-0 SUNYAC) slid into the sixth spot.

Plattsburgh will finish up its SUNYAC schedule on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Geneseo and Brockport respectively in pivotal matches as the SUNYAC Tournament lingers in uncertainty.
