Cardinals' Woes Continue as They Fall Short to Fredonia State, 1-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team suffered its first loss at the comforts of home, losing 1-0 to the Fredonia State Blue Devils.

The games' lone goal came 69 seconds into the game when Alexis Moreland netted her fourth goal of the season.

The Cardinals now have conceded the first goal in their past four games which has seen them go 0-3-1 during that span.

The goal was created when senior Katie Kleine cross the ball into the box which found a streaking Moreland alone in front of the net. The sophomore from Newfane, N.Y., then touched it over the out reaching arms of Cardinals goalkeeper Danielle Schmitt.

Schmitt and the Cardinals started slow but would eventually settle in. Plattsburgh would tally 11 shots in the first half and another eight shots in the second half including two that struck the crossbar by a pair of freshmen in Lindsey Bushey and Madeline Saccocio. The Cardinals owned a 19-10 shot advantage and 6-2 corner edge over the Blue Devils.

Lindsey Forness was credited with six saves in the victory for Fredonia while Schmitt tallied three in the losing effort.

Each team came into today with identical SUNYAC records at 2-2-1. With the win Fredonia (6-6-1, 3-2-1 SUNYAC) poll vaulted into third place in the SUNYAC standings while Plattsburgh (6-6-1, 2-3-1 SUNYAC) slid to eighth.
