Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten by Blanking Bard

Nick Parrella contributed a goal and an assist to help lead the Cardinals to a 4-0 win over Bard Saturday night.
Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Four different goal scorers found the back of the net Saturday night as the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over Bard College in a non-conference matchup at the Field House Turf Complex.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 4-0 on the year while the Raptors drop to 0-3 overall.

Plattsburgh State gained an early lead at the 10:12 mark on sophomore midfielder Fabian Chaparro's first of the year. Nick Parrella's header was denied by Bard goalkeeper Daniel Gagne but Chaparro was in place to tap the rebound past a diving Gagne to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals extended the lead in the 21st minute when Parrella buried his second of the season with a header shot off a long cross from Wade Goehle to make it a 2-0 game.

Less than three minutes later, Steve Zacharczyk's initial shot was denied before Tom Greene knocked in the rebound to give the Cardinals a three-goal lead. Plattsburgh State tacked on one more at 40:34 when a long cross from Sean Murphy found Collin Illiano, who scored with another header shot to round out the scoring.

Despite the lack of scoring in the second half, Plattsburgh State controlled the play throughout most of the evening, outshooting Bard by a 25-1 margin. The Cardinals also drew 14 corner kicks.

John Toper got the start in goal for the Cardinals, making one save in the first half to improve to 2-0. Junior Matt Bonomini took over for Toper in the second half and did not face a shot. Gagne made five stops for the Raptors in the loss.

The Cardinals return to action Wednesday with a non-conference game at Castleton. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
