Hamilton's Late Goal Lifts Plattsburgh State to Victory at Utica

Mitchell Jordon needed just one stop to earn his first career shutout Tuesday night against the Pioneers.
Box Score UTICA, N.Y. – Matt Hamilton scored in the 81st minute of Tuesday night's game to give the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Utica College in a non-league matchup at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

The Pioneers (3-5) controlled much of the play in the first half, outshooting Plattsburgh State, 3-2, and earning a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks but the two teams remained deadlocked at the half.

After a slow start, the Cardinals (6-1-1) responded in the second half by dominating shots, 8-1, and corner kicks, 6-0.

Plattsburgh State broke the scoreless tie at 80:15 when Hamilton took a cross from Nick Parrella and buried it into an open net from six yards out for his second goal of the season. In addition to scoring the game-winning, the Cardinals' captain also led the team with two shots on goal Tuesday night.

Cardinal goalkeeper Mitchell Jordon improved to 3-0 on the year, making just one save in his first career shutout. Utica's Anthony Caruso suffered the loss with three saves – all of which came in the second half.

The Cardinals now turn their attention to conference play as Potsdam comes to town Saturday for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Opener. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the Field House Turf Complex.
