PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Mark Constantine and Kevin Emmerling combined for six points as the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team rolled to a 6-0 win over Brockport in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday night at the Stafford Ice Arena.
Emmerling got things going for the Cardinals with just 5:02 gone in the game, giving Plattsburgh State an early 1-0 lead. Emmerling, who was perched right in front of Brockport goaltender Jared Lockhurst, took a centering pass from Luke Baleshta and lifted a shot to the right of Lockhurst for his second of the season.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead to the locker room at the end of the first period after Constantine scored on a shot from the right circle that rung off the post and past Lockhurst. Emmerling and Anthony Calabrese picked up assists on the power-play goal.
Just one second after a Cardinal power play expired, Patrick Hermans scored the only goal of the second period to give Plattsburgh State a three-goal lead. Michael Cassidy's shot was stopped by Lockhurst but the rebound got knocked out to Hermans, who blasted a shot from the left point for his second of the year at the 3:49 mark.
Constantine got his second of the night early in the third by knocking home a Dillan Fox rebound. Less than four minutes later, Fox got one of his own from Constantine and Alex Jensen before Emmerling tacked on another at the 11:25 mark to round out the scoring.
Plattsburgh State goaltender Mathieu Cadieux recorded 31 saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Lockhurst stopped 38 of the 44 shots he faced in the loss for the Golden Eagles.
The Cardinals went 1-for-4 on the power play while Brockport finished the night 0-for-4.
With the win, Plattsburgh State improves to 3-0-0 overall and in conference play. Brockport drops to 1-3-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in the SUNYAC.
Plattsburgh State hits the road for the next four games, beginning with a trip to Western New York next weekend. The Cardinals travel to Fredonia on Friday before wrapping up the weekend at Buffalo State on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
