Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 shutout of Fredonia to pick up a weekend sweep in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Saturday afternoon at the Field House Turf Complex.

The win moves the Cardinals to 11-3-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the SUNYAC, giving them sole possession of third place in the league standings. The Blue Devils drop to 4-10-1 on the year and 1-5-1 against conference opponents.

Despite outshooting Fredonia by a 14-5 margin in the first half, the Cardinals struggled to find the back of the net. Plattsburgh State finally got on the board at 40:31 when Matt Hamilton scored on a free kick from the top of the box for his fifth of the year. Hamilton's goal late in the half gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Plattsburgh State added to the lead at 52:57 when Alexis Archilla tallied his sixth of the year off a corner kick by Tom Greene, giving the Cardinals all the offense they would need to hold off the Blue Devils.

The Cardinals finished the day with an 18-12 advantage in shots while the two teams drew five corner kicks apiece.

John Toper got the start in net for the Cardinals, making three saves to earn his first shutout and improve his record to 4-1-1. Fredonia's A.J. Grecco made 10 stops in the loss.

Prior to the start of Saturday's game, Plattsburgh State honored its senior class in their final regular season home game. The 2013 senior class includes Tom Greene, Matt Hamilton, Joe Aratari and Steve Zacharczyk.

The Cardinals will take the show on the road for the remainder of the regular season as Plattsburgh State begins its final weekend of league play Friday at Brockport. The weekend wraps up with a SUNYAC matchup on Saturday at Geneseo.
