Box Score

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – A three-goal second period sealed the deal as the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team skated to a 4-1 win over the Potsdam Bears Friday night on Military Appreciation Night at the Stafford Ice Arena.

The nationally-ranked No. 9 Cardinals took a 1-0 lead at the 5:46 mark of the opening period on Dillan Fox’s third of the year. Jared Docking worked around the Potsdam defense behind the net to set up Fox, who was positioned to the right of Potsdam goaltender Jon Hall. Fox took a shot from in close that went though the legs of Hall and into the right side of the net, tallying the lone goal of the first period.

Plattsburgh made it 2-0 with 5:07 gone in the second period with the Cardinals’ sixth short-handed marker of the season. Alex Jensen left a drop-pass for Nick Jensen, who ripped a shot over the left shoulder of Hall for the goal. Michael Cassidy also picked up an assist on the goal.

Cassidy got into the mix a little over three minutes later with a goal of his own, burying a rebound off a shot by Michael Radisa to give Plattsburgh a three-goal lead at 8:50.

With the Cardinals on the rush, a cross-ice pass by Docking found Fox for a wrister that put Plattsburgh up by four goals at the 18:34 mark.

Potsdam got on the board when Dan McCamey’s shot hit the back of Mathieu Cadieux’s leg and bounced over the goal line at 3:42 of the third period but that was as close as the Bears would come in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup.

The Cardinals improve to 13-5-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the SUNYAC. The Bears drop to 6-12-1 on the year and 3-7-0 in league play.

Plattsburgh finished with a 41-25 advantage in shots on goal. Neither side was able to capitalize on the power play with the Cardinals going 0-for-6 and the Bears going 0-for-4.

Cadieux earned his ninth victory of the year with 24 saves. Despite suffering the loss for Potsdam, Hall turned in an impressive effort with 37 stops.

The Cardinal men’s hockey team honored members of the military in a pregame ceremony Friday evening. The Cardinals also took the ice in special camouflage jerseys that were auctioned off after the game. All proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the Pat Tillman Foundation.

Plattsburgh will now prepare for the final road trip of the regular season next weekend as the Cardinals head to Western New York for a pair of SUNYAC games. The Cardinals face Buffalo State on Friday before wrapping up the weekend at Fredonia State. Both contests are set for 7 p.m.
