Box Score

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Shannon Stewart and Teal Gove each contributed five points as the top-ranked Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team skated to an 8-0 win over Oswego State in an Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division matchup Saturday afternoon at the Stafford Ice Arena.

The win allows Plattsburgh to improve to 12-0-1 and 6-0-0 in league play. Oswego State drops to 7-7-1 overall and 6-3-0 against ECAC West opponents.

Stewart got things underway with her first of the afternoon at the 8:06 mark of the first period with a shot that ricocheted off the post and into the net to give Plattsburgh State a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals never looked back with Allison Era scoring her eighth of the year at 12:35 from Emma Rutherford.

The line of Stewart, Gove and Morgan MacInnis put on a clinic Saturday afternoon as the trio tallied 12 combined points. Stewart netted three of the five goals Plattsburgh scored in the middle stanza to complete her first career hat trick. The sophomore forward’s five points tied a career-high, which she set against Norwich on Feb. 8, 2012.

With 1:32 remaining in the second, rookie forward Giovanna Senese took a few jabs at a puck in front of the net before finally knocking it in for her first collegiate marker. Senese’s goal from Ali Vakos and Chelsea VanGlahn stretched the Cardinals’ lead to 7-0.

Gove scored the lone goal of the third period thanks to a nice feed from Stewart. Gove’s goal capped a nice afternoon with four additional assists.

Plattsburgh held a 42-18 advantage in shots on goal but went 0-for-3 on the power play.

Oswego’s Bridget Smith suffered the loss, making 14 saves in 28:36. Smith was replaced by Tori Trovato in the second period who allowed three goals on 23 shots the rest of the way.

Sydney Aveson turned away all 18 shots to earn her second shutout of the season.

The two-game set wraps up Sunday afternoon with a 3 p.m. start at the Stafford Ice Arena.
