Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team got a lucky break in the 77
th minute when an own goal by Farmingdale State gave the Cardinals the lead and an eventual 3-2 win over the Rams in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Junior forward Joe Aratari opened the scoring at 13:19 off a pass from Wade Goehle, giving Plattsburgh State (4-0) an early 1-0 lead. The Cardinals surrendered their first goal of the year in the 23
nd minute when Victor Romero tallied his first collegiate goal for the Rams to tie the game at 1-1.
The game would remain tied until 57:28 when Goehle added an unassisted goal to put Plattsburgh in front but the lead would be short-lived as the Cardinals were called for a hand ball in the box, awarding the Rams a penalty kick at 61:02. Brian Anderson buried the shot for Farmingdale State (0-4) to tie it up but the Rams’ own goal at 76:10 gave the Cardinals all they would need for the win.
Andy Heighington made one stop to earn his fourth win of the season for Plattsburgh. Farmingdale State goalie Angelo Viteritto caused trouble for the Cardinals, stopping 12 of the 15 shots he faced.
The Cardinals finished the day with 21 shots, outshooting the Rams by 17. Plattsburgh drew nine corner kicks, while Farmingdale State took one in the first half.
Plattsburgh wraps up the weekend road trip tomorrow at Old Westbury in a non-conference game at noon.
