PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.  – The Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team saw no shortage of offense in the second game of the 2012 Cardinal Classic Tournament as three players tallied two goals apiece in a 10-0 win against Johnson State.

Mike Payne opened the scoring at 8:26 when he converted a penalty kick. Fabian Chaparro tallied his first collegiate goal at 16:56 when he took the ball top shelf from Sean Murphy. Less than three minutes later Matt Hamilton’s shot ricocheted off the post for the Cardinals’ third of the night.

Nick Parrella added back-to-back goals before Clay Sherman’s header hit the crossbar and bounced across the goal line to give Plattsburgh a commanding 6-0 lead at the end of the first half.

Harvey Azra and Omar Fernandez each scored twice in the second half to push the Cardinals into double-digits. Azra led the offense with two goals and an assist.

Johnson State (0-1-0) struggled to get anything going offensively as Keegan Hanlon accounted for the Badgers’ two shots on the night. The Cardinals finished with 33 shots.

Andy Heighington did not face a shot in the first half but earned his first win of the year. Zack Kruizenga manned the Plattsburgh (1-0-0) net for 23:34 while newcomer John Toper stepped in for the final 21:26, but neither goaltender needed to make a save.

Sam Martin made nine saves in the loss for Johnson State.

The Cardinals are set to face Lyndon State tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. to close out the tournament. The Badgers will look to rebound against Skidmore at 5 p.m.

Skidmore 2, Lyndon State 0

Despite some great scoring opportunities for Skidmore, Lyndon State kept the Thoroughbreds at bay until the 72nd minute when Brock Bakewell found the back of the net from Aaron Krepack.

With just under three minutes to go, Aldin Medunjanin buried a pass from Joey Colvin to secure the win for Skidmore.

The Thoroughbreds (1-0-0) outshot the Hornets, 20-4. Lyndon State’s Jason Gray stopped seven shots in the loss while Skidmore’s Eli Kisselbach needed just one save for the win.
