PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – A ferocious second half was too much to handle for The Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team (7-13, 5-8 SUNYAC) fell at home to Buffalo State (16-3, 9-3 SUNYAC) 92-74 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday.
A fast-paced first half saw the Cardinals go into the break down by four points, despite leading for the majority of it. The Bengals offense came out at a lightning pace in the second half to push their team to victory.
Anthony Hamer sank two free throws with 4:55 remaining in the opening period to give the Bengals a lead they would not lose for the remainder of the game.
Three turnovers in the opening minute of the second half gave the Bengals the chance to score from beyond the arc three times in a row and give themselves a 13 point lead. The Bengals were relentless and built their lead up to 38 points with 7:24 left in the game.
The Bengals shot an impressive 54.5 percent from beyond the arc, while the Cardinals shot 49.1 percent from the field.
Shavar Fields notched 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Junghoon Roh added 11 points, going 3-for-5 from three point land. John Perez also scored 11 points and Shamoy McIntosh put in 10 points.
Jake Simmons hit 25 points for the Bengals on 7-of-11 shooting from three point range. Roderick Epps scored 11 points off the bench, while both Ahmed Nagoya and Justin Mitchell notched 10 points each.
The Cardinals will host Fredonia State in SUNYAC action tomorrow at 4 p.m.
