MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – With 48 seconds remaining, Middlebury pulled its goaltender and scored the game-tying goal to force a 4-4 tie with Plattsburgh in a non-conference game Saturday at Kenyon Arena.
Middlebury (18-3-3, 14-2-0 NESCAC) took a 1-0 lead just 2:41 into the game on a power-play goal. Jennifer Krakower scored on a one-timer from the top of the right circle, converting a pass from Hannah Bielawski. The Cardinals (17-5-3, 15-1-2 ECAC West) tied the game late in the period when Jenny Kistner scored after a scramble in front. Kylie Klassen and Emma Rutherford assisted on the first Plattsburgh goal.
Grace Waters scored Middlebury’s second power-play goal of the game just 19 seconds into the second session. Madison Styrbicki ripped a shot from the point that was tipped in by Waters for her seventh of the season.
Plattsburgh scored twice in 55 seconds midway through the period to take a 3-2 lead. Klassen scored the first at 11:33 on a rebound, while Ashton Hogan gave the Cardinals the lead at the 12:28 mark.
Middlebury tied it at 3-3 at the 3:13 mark of the third period when Katie Sullivan scored her 10
th of the year, converting a feed after Lauren Greer’s shot was saved.
Plattsburgh regained the lead with 1:50 left in the contest, as Shannon Stewart scored after a nice crossing pass from Teal Gove. Middlebury pulled its netminder late in the game, tying it up with just 48 seconds left to play. Sara Ugalde scored her 13
th goal of the season, converting a two-on-one with a shot over the goaltender’s shoulder.
Plattsburgh went on the power play with 15 seconds remaining in regulation and into overtime, but could not net the game-winner.
The Cardinals held a 36-16 shots advantage in the game, as Annebelle Jones made 29 saves for the Panthers and Sydney Aveson made 12 stops for the Cardinals.
After an R.I.T. sweep in Cortland this weekend, Plattsburgh has now secured the second seed in the ECAC West standings. The Cardinals finish with 32 points, while the Tigers have 33. Both Plattsburgh and R.I.T. will receive a first round bye in the ECAC West Tournament. Plattsburgh will travel to R.I.T. for the conference semifinals which will take place on March 3. The ECAC West championship game will follow on March 4.
