GENESEO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team (10-14, 7-11 SUNYAC) suffered a heavy 72-29 loss in their final regular season game at Geneseo (16-9, 11-7 SUNYAC) in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Saturday.
The loss, paired with a win by Oswego over Fredonia, drops the Cardinals to the seven seed for the upcoming SUNYAC tournament were they will face the two seed New Paltz.
The Cardinals endured a horrific shooting day, hitting just 20.6 percent of the shots from the field and 5.6 percent from three point range. Making things worse was the Blue Knights ability to shoot consistently throughout the game. Geneseo hit 46.4 percent of its shots from the floor and an impressive 56.3 from outside the arc.
The Cardinals trailed by 22 points at the break after scoring just 11 first half points and the second half would not slow the Blue Knights down as they scored the first 10 points of the new half. The Blue Knights led by as many as 45 points in the second half.
Brittany Marshall, Kathleen Payne, Tassica Halstead, Jalen Hart and Yazmin Lewis all scored four points for the Cardinals. Payne also had eight rebounds in the loss.
Meghan Prue notched 17 points for the Blue Knights, while Lea Sobieraski and Shannon McGinnis each added 11 points.
The Cardinals will begin postseason play as they travel to New Paltz Tuesday for the first round of the SUNYAC tournament.
