POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team had a goal at the start of the season, make playoffs. With a 64-56 win at SUNY Potsdam Friday, they achieved that goal.
With four regular season games left on the schedule, the Cardinals are now playing for seeding.
The Cardinals used a balanced offense to take down the Bears with three different scorers attaining double-digit points.
Plattsburgh entered the halftime break leading by six points and held that lead for the entire second half, although the Bears stayed within touching distance.
Kathleen Payne led the Cardinals with 14 points and seven rebounds on the night. Brittany Marshall backed Payne up with 11 points of her own on 4-of-16 shooting from the field and Catherine Cassidy came off the bench to score 10 points, five of them coming from the free-throw line. Dana Nucaro notched nine points and six rebounds, while Brooke Reifinger scored eight points.
Kaley Arsenault and Jessica Kouzan both hit 11 points for the hosts, but the Bears shot only 27 percent from the field for the game.
The Cardinals return to Memorial Hall on Tuesday February 14, when they host New Paltz in a “Play 4 Kay” game at 6 p.m.
