PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Allison Era paced a potent Plattsburgh State offense as the Cardinal women’s hockey team cruised to a 10-0 win against Chatham in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Division game Sunday afternoon at the Stafford Ice Arena.

Era scored once in the second period and twice in the third for her first career hat trick. She also led the Cardinals with 10 shots on the day.

The Cardinals fired 81 shots in Sunday’s game, the third highest shot total in program history, while Chatham (0-2-0, 0-2-0 ECAC West) had a total of six. Plattsburgh was perfect on the power play, converting all three of its attempts. The Cougars went 0-for-1.

Plattsburgh (3-0-1, 2-0-0 ECAC West) got things going with 3:58 left in the first period when the Cardinals pulled goaltender Ally Ross for the extra attacker. Shannon Stewart took advantage of the opportunity with a one-timer from just inside the circle to give Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead.

Just 1:42 later, Andrea Ziesmann netted his first collegiate goal on the power play from Emma Rutherford to make it 2-0 in favor of the Cardinals at the end of the first period.

Three more goals in the second period stretched the lead to 5-0 before the offense erupted for five goals in the final period. Nine Cardinals tallied multiple points in the shutout victory. In addition to Era’s hat trick, Ziesmann and Teal Gove each contributed a goal and two assists. Rutherford also added three assists.

Ross made her second-straight start in between the pipes for Plattsburgh, recording five saves in the win. Megan Buchanan suffered the loss, allowing five goals on 55 shots through the first two periods for Chatham. Kaitlynn Smith took over for the Cougars in the third, giving up five goals and making 21 stops.

The Cardinals face a quick turnaround as Potsdam comes to town Tuesday for a conference matchup. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Stafford Ice Arena.
