Women's Basketball Falters at Oneonta, 56-48

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team sunk the first two points of the game, but trailed the rest of the night dropping a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup at Oneonta State, 56-48.
 
Plattsburgh (7-11, 4-8 SUNYAC) trailed by 12 with 8:18 remaining in the first half before Brittany Marshall scored 11 points to cut the deficit to 5 with 1:43 left on the clock. Oneonta’s Samantha Szkotak hit a jumper in the final minute of the half, sending the Red Dragons to the locker room with a 32-25 lead.
 
Despite leading by as much as 13, Oneonta (12-6, 9-2 SUNYAC) struggled offensively in the second half, shooting 23.1 percent (6-for-26) from the field. The Red Dragons finished the night shooting 32.1 percent while the Cardinals shot 32 percent.
 
The Cardinals were lead by Marshall with 13 points, while Brooke Reifinger and Kathleen Payne scored 12 and 11 points respectively. Catherine Cassidy and Yazmin Lewis pulled down six rebounds apiece.
 
Szkotak scored a game-high 19 points to lead Oneonta to victory. Sarah Longto had nine rebounds while Madison Slagle had three assists and four steals.
 
Plattsburgh returns home this weekend for conference games against Buffalo State and Fredonia.
