PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team (12-2-4, 7-1-1 SUNYAC) skated to a 3-1 win over Morrisville State (3-14-1, 2-7-1 SUNYAC) in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup Saturday night at the Stafford Ice Arena. With the win, the Cardinals push their unbeaten streak to 11, the longest current streak in Division III.

Despite a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal in the first period, it took Plattsburgh some time to settle in. With 45 seconds remaining in the opening period, Jared Docking gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead with his fourth of the year from Kyle Taylor and Mike Grace.

Plattsburgh struck again at the 6:08 mark of the second when Patrick Jobb scored off a deflection in front to stretch the lead to 2-0. Preston Kaye was credited with an assist on the eventual game-winner.

Ten minutes later, Nick Jensen gave the Cardinals a three-goal lead after his shot deflected off the crossbar and into the net. Alex Jensen picked up an assist on his older brother’s seventh of the season.

With 36 seconds remaining in the game, Plattsburgh took a bench minor for too many men on the ice. The Mustangs pulled goaltender Colin Breen and with a two-man advantage, James Jarvis was able to break up the shutout with his first of the year. Todd Hosmer and Jamie Nelson assisted on the goals.

Cardinal goalie Mathieu Cadieux stopped 14 shots to improve to 9-2-3, while Breen recorded 40 saves in the loss. Plattsburgh finished the night with a 43-15 edge in shots on goal.

The Cardinals went 0-for-3 on the power-play while Morrisville was 1-for-6, becoming the first opponent to crack the Plattsburgh penalty-kill unit since Fredonia on Nov. 11, 2011.

Plattsburgh continues conference play Friday as the Cardinals host Potsdam at 7 p.m. Members of the team will be wearing special jersey which will be autographed and auctioned off immediately following the conclusion of the game.
