PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – A hot shooting night from the Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team (6-6, 3-4 SUNYAC) propelled them to an 89-57 win in non-conference action over the Sage College Gators (6-9, 2-4 Skyline).
The Cardinals shot an impressive 54.1 percent from the field in the first half and then came out from the break on fire from three-point range, shooting 55.6 percent.
The 89 points scored was a season-high for the Cardinals. Plattsburgh had three players in double digit scoring, including Kathleen Payne who notched a double-double for a second straight game. Payne scored 28 points, on 13-for-20 shooting, and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds to lead the game in both categories. Brooke Reifinger dropped 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting and Kerri Salisbury scored 10 points and had five rebounds. Brittany Marshall, Lindsey Larivee and Johni Coryea each scored nine points of their own in the win. Both Larivee and Coryea had good nights from beyond the arc, Larivee went 2-for-2 and Coryea 3-for-4.
Plattsburgh led by 22 points at the break after jumping out to a 22-9 lead 7:08 into the game. The Cardinals dominated the defensive glass with 31 rebounds and recorded a season-high 47 rebounds total. Salisbury, Dana Nucaro and Jalen Hart each snatched five rebounds for the Cardinals; all five of Hart’s rebounds came on the defensive end.
Chelsea Martin and Kara Hackett tried to get things going for the Gators, both recording 14 points. Martin also grabbed a team-high nine boards.
The Cardinals will hit the road this weekend for State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action. Friday they will visit Fredonia and Saturday the Cardinals will face Buffalo State.
