Plattsburgh Men Settle for 3-3 Tie at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The No. 3 Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team surrendered three goals in the third period, salvaging a 3-3 tie at No. 11 Williams College in its final non-conference game of the regular season.
 
Alex Jensen opened the scoring for Plattsburgh (11-2-4, 6-1-1 SUNYAC) with a power-play goal at 17:45 of the first period. Jake Mooney was credited with an assist on the goal.
 
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead at 13:17 of the middle period on a Barry Roytman shot from the top of the left circle. The goal was unassisted.
 
Williams (8-1-4, 6-1-1 NESCAC) battled back into the game in the third with back-to-back goals from Stephen Maier and Paul Steinig.
 
Ryan Craig put Plattsburgh up 3-2 midway through the third with his fifth of the year from Mooney. But the Cardinals could not hang on as Williams scored the equalizer with an extra-attacker on at 19:25. Evan Dugdale tied it up at 3-3 with his fifth of the year from Mark Lyons and Justin Troiani.
 
Williams outshot Plattsburgh, 6-3, in the overtime period, but the two teams would settle for a draw. The Cardinals finished the night with a 46-48 advantage in shots on goals.
 
Ryan Purdy had an outstanding night in net for the Ephs, stopping 43 shots. Mathieu Cadieux recorded 35 saves in the Plattsburgh net.
 
Plattsburgh, who sits a point behind Oswego in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) standings, returns to conference play Saturday as the Cardinals host Morrisville at 7 p.m.
