PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Pat Shaughnessy tallied three goals to lead the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team to a 4-0 win over Lyndon State in a non-conference game at the Field House Soccer Complex Tuesday night.

Shaughnessy ignited the Plattsburgh offense in the 18th minute, scoring a header off the corner kick.  Steve Zacharczyk picked up an assist on the Cardinals’ first goal.

Less than two minutes later, Shaughnessy found the back of the net again, this time from Erik Hakim to stretch the Plattsburgh lead to 2-0 heading into the half.

Shaughnessy netted his seventh of the season in the 54th minute from Mike Payne before Nick Parella scored one of his own 16 seconds later.

The Cardinals (8-0-1, 0-0-1 SUNYAC) dominated play throughout the evening with a 28-1 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Jason Gray suffered the loss for the Hornets (3-6, 0-2 NAC), making seven saves.  Plattsburgh’s Andy Heighington was untested in the first 55 minutes.  Mike Lind saw his first action of the season for the Cardinals, finishing the final 34:56 in net without having to make a save.

Plattsburgh returns to conference play this weekend against Cortland and Oswego.  The Cardinals will host the Red Dragons on Friday at 4 p.m. before the Lakers come to town on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
