PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Patrick Jobb scored a hat trick and added an assist, while four other Cardinals tallied multiple points, to lead the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team to a 9-2 win over Potsdam in the final game of the regular season. The Cardinals finish the regular season at 17-7-1 overall, 9-7-0 in conference play.
The offense was a welcome for the Cardinals, who have struggled to find the back of the net as of late. Jobb opened the scoring with a power-play goal with just 1:06 gone in the opening period. Six minutes later, Ryan Farnan netted his third of the year from Paul Puglisi and Ryan Corry. At the 9:00 mark, Jobb struck again with his ninth of the year and the eventual game-winner, giving Plattsburgh a 3-0 lead after one period.
Jared Docking, Nick Jensen, Vick Schlueter and Eric Satim each found the back of the net in the second period. Potsdam’s Sy Nutkevitch put the Bears on the board at the 5:09 mark from Fraser Smith.
Jobb completed the hat trick at 7:23 of the third period, with Docking picking up the assist. Kyle VanDermale added one more for the Cardinals with just under four minutes to play in the third period.
Docking (1g, 2a) and Schlueter (1g, 2a) each grabbed three points for the Cardinals, while Satim (1g, 1a) and Ryan Craig (2a) added two apiece.
Ryan Williams and Josh Leis split time in the Plattsburgh net, each recording nine saves. Williams was credited with his third win of the year. Potsdam goaltender Kevin Mcfarland made 29 stops in the loss.
The Cardinals await the outcome of tomorrow night’s game between Morrisville and Fredonia to determine Plattsburgh’s opponent in Wednesday’s State University of New York Athletic Conference Quarterfinal game.
