BUFFALO, N.Y. — Errol Daniyan put Plattsburgh State up by one with eight seconds to go in overtime, two of his 26 points, but Buffalo State’s Justin Mitchell converted on a layup attempt four seconds later to send the Bengals to an 81-80 overtime win Friday night in State University of New York Athletic Conference action.
The game, which featured 11 lead changes, was sent into overtime after a scoreless drought that lasted more than two minutes to end regulation. After Buffalo State’s’ Glenroy Carr hit a jumper with 2:13 to go to tie the game at 69-69, the teams went scoreless until the buzzer.
Daniyan recorded a double-double for the Cardinals. His 26 points on 12-for-16 shooting were a game-high. He also pulled down 12 rebounds, giving him 58 in his last five games. Carl Munnerlyn backed Daniyan up with 16 points. Chris Ruiz (15) and Steve Thomas (11) were also in double digits for the Cardinals.
Mitchell and Chris Cartwright were the leading scorers for the Bengals, as they dropped 21 and 23 points, respectively. Mitchell was the game’s leading rebounder, grabbing 13 boards, including 11 on the defensive glass. Norman Simmons dished out a game-high nine assists
With the win, Buffalo State moves into second-place in the SUNYAC with a 12-5 conference record. The Bengals are 17-6 overall. Plattsburgh falls to 15-9, 11-6 in the SUNYAC.
The Cardinals close out the regular season with a game Saturday at Fredonia. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
