Three-Pointers Sink Cardinals in Loss to Potsdam

Boxscore and Play-by-Play

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
- The Plattsburgh women’s basketball team built up a ten point second half lead, but could not hold on as the Potsdam Bears staged a furious comeback enroute to 62-51 road win.  When Nora Campbell sank her second straight basket in the paint at the 14:59 mark of the second half the Cardinals seemed to be in command in front of their home crowd, but they could only muster two more field goals the rest of the night.  Campbell did her part, scoring nine second-half points.  The senior from Miller Place, N.Y. finished the night leading the Cardinals with 13 points.  Catherine Cassidy, a sophomore guard from Brooklyn added 10 points in the loss.

The Potsdam Bears were led by senior guard Aimee Kellicutt.  The Lisle, N.Y. native netted three three-pointers, including two in the last six minutes that finished off the Cardinals.  Three pointers were the undoing of the Cardinals in the second half.   Potsdam freshman Hannah Kmiecinski buried a three-pointer to tie the Cardinals at the 7:37 mark.  Plattsburgh took the lead once more in the game 21 seconds later on two Cassidy free throws, but Potsdam controlled the boards from that point on and outscored the Cardinals 20-7.

The Cardinals fall to 6-11 and 5-6 in State University of New York Athletic Conference play.  Potsdam upped their record to 3-15 and 2-9 in the SUNYAC.  The Cardinals head out for two road games this coming weekend, facing Brockport on Friday and Geneseo on Saturday.
