Women's Basketball Earns First SUNYAC Win in OT Thriller

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Brittany Marshall scored five points in overtime to lead the Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team (2-4, 1-3 SUNYAC) to a thrilling 75-71 victory over Geneseo State (4-3, 1-1 SUNYAC).

The Cardinals were down by as many as 11 points in the second half, but with 7:41 left Brooke Reifinger hit a three-pointer to swing momentum in Plattsburgh’s favor. Lindsey Larivee hit a shot from beyond the arc with 4:43 left to put Plattsburgh up by two and complete a 13-point run by the Cardinals.

Melissa Graham scored a layup with 1:16 remaining in the game to wrestle the lead back for Geneseo, but Marshall answered with a layup of her own with 35 seconds to go.

Marshall and Kathleen Payne led the comeback with 19 points each. Lindsey Larivee provided a boost off the bench by adding 12 points, including a three-point shot to give the Cardinals the lead with 4:43 left in the second half.

Graham scored 17 points to lead the Knights while also grabbing seven rebounds. Katie Peterson and Meghan Prue chipped in with 16 and 15 points respectively to help force overtime.

Marshall was the standout for Plattsburgh in the overtime period, hitting a three point shot with 2:35 left to give the Cardinals the lead for good. Marshall then came up with a steal and a layup to give the Cardinals some breathing room.

The Cardinals shot 37.7 percent from the field, while the Knights hit 39.7 percent of their shots.

The Cardinals return to Memorial Hall tomorrow as they host Brockport State at 2 p.m. in State University of New York Athletic (SUNYAC) action.
