Boxscore

NORTHFIELD, Vt.  – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the third period Tuesday night against Norwich at Kreitzberg Arena, but the Cardinals could not hang on as the Cadets staged a rally of their own to defeat Plattsburgh 3-2 in overtime.

Plattsburgh (7-3-1, 6-0-1 ECAC West) could not silence the Cadets’ second line which featured Kaycie Anderson, Tyne Gove and Jillayne DeBus. DeBus put Norwich (9-1-1, 7-0-1 ECAC East) on the board with a late first period goal from Anderson and Gove, giving the Cadets a 1-0 lead after one period.

The Cardinals answered back at 14:39 of the second when Morgan MacInnis picked up the puck in the corner from Kylie Klassen and skated in alone to beat Norwich goaltender Kelly Fisk.

Plattsburgh freshman Emma Rutherford scored the go-ahead goal at the 1:37 mark of the third period from Jenny Kistner. The Cardinals maintained the lead through the first half of the period, but Tyne Gove tied it up at 2-2 with a power-play goal at 12:09. The Norwich rookie, who is the younger sister of Plattsburgh assistant captain Teal Gove, tallied her eighth of the year from Sarianne Lynn and Brittany Sharman.

With 2:27 gone in overtime, Melissa Rundlett sent a centering pass to Anderson who one-timed it past Plattsburgh netminder Sydney Aveson to give the Cadets the win.

Norwich tripled Plattsburgh in shots on goal, finishing the night with a 33-11 advantage. The Cardinals’ were able to kill six of seven penalties, but the Cadets’ power-play unit, which has converted 34.6 percent of its opportunities, was able to find the back of the net in the third period to tie the game.

Aveson stopped 30 of the 33 shots she faced. Fisk remains perfect for the Cadets, making nine saves in the win.

The Cardinals wrap up the first semester with a 3 p.m. non-conference game on Saturday against Manhattanville at the Stafford Ice Arena.
