Plattsburgh Snaps Winless Streak with 6-1 Victory over Cortland

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh men’s hockey team scored three goals in the second period en route to a 6-1 win over the Cortland Red Dragons, snapping a three-game winless streak. Plattsburgh improves to 6-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play.
 
Adam Scuglia netted his first of the year from Patrick Jobb and Mike Cassidy at the 8:06 mark of the first period. The Cardinals held the 1-0 edge through most of the period until surrendering a short-handed goal to Cortland’s (3-8-1, 2-5-1 SUNYAC) Adam Bevilacqua with 34 seconds remaining in the period to knot the score at 1-1.
 
The floodgates opened in the second period as Kyle Taylor tallied his first of the year from Jared Docking and Kyle Kudroch. Less than four minutes later, Alex Jensen made it 3-1 with assists from Preston Kaye and Nick Jensen.
 
At 13:09 of the second, Kudroch tallied a power-play goal to give Plattsburgh a three-goal lead. Kudroch tipped in Barry Roytman’s shot from the point. Docking was also credited with an assist on the goal.
 
Taylor scored his second goal of the night, a power-play goal at 11:21 of the third period, off a feed from Docking. Docking finished the night with three assists.
 
Vick Schlueter tacked on one more to make it 6-1 with 2:45 left in the game. With the Cardinals down a skater, Schlueter found the back of the net on a breakaway for his fifth of the year.
 
Plattsburgh held a 37-17 edge in shots on goal. Josh Leis made nine saves in the first two periods to earn the win for the Cardinals. Sam Foley stopped all seven shots he faced in the final period of play. Cortland goaltender Brittan Kuhlman turned away 31 shots in the loss.
 
The Cardinals will wrap up the first semester on Friday with a non-conference game at Norwich. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
