PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Kathleen Payne starred in a 78-58 victory for the Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team (3-4, 2-3 SUNYAC) over The College at Brockport (1-7, 0-3 SUNYAC) Saturday. With back-to-back wins over Geneseo and Brockport, the Cardinals earned their first weekend sweep in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action since the 2008-09 season.
Payne recorded a double-double, going off for 28 points and 13 assists on 10-for-17 shooting. Payne also dished out two assists, one on a no-look pass through her legs to a waiting Kerri Salisbury. Brooke Reifinger scored 14 points, going 2-for-4 from three-point range. Kerri Salisbury added nine points and two assists on 3-for-5 shooting. Catherine Cassidy led the Cardinals with seven assists.
The Cardinals led by 10 at the half and went on 16-6 run to finish the game. The Cardinals shot 42.6 percent from the field while the Golden Eagles shot 31.7 percent.
The Knights had three players reach double-digit scoring, but could not stay with a quick Cardinal offense. Cecilia Sigrist and Kelly Grinnell tallied 14 points apiece while Rachel Csakany chipped in with 13 points to aid the Brockport cause.
The Cardinals are off until Dec. 28. Following the holiday break, Plattsburgh will travel to New Orleans, La. for the Big Easy Challenge. The Cardinals will matchup with Geneva College at 10 a.m. on Dec. 28 followed by a game against Keene State on Dec. 30 at noon.
