POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team cruised to a 4-1 win at Potsdam in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup Saturday night at Maxcy Ice Arena.
Freshman forward Mark Constantine continued his hot start, scoring his third of the season to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead at 16:39 of the first period. Mike Grace and Jake Mooney picked up assists on the goal.
Vick Schlueter tallied the eventual game-winner with 57 seconds left in the first period from Adam Scuglia and Barry Roytman.
Plattsburgh (2-0-0, 2-0-0 SUNYAC) scored the lone goal of the second period, despite Potsdam’s 13-11 edge in shots. The Cardinals took a three-goal lead at 3:06 of the second on Ryan Craig's first of the year, a power-play goal from Alex Jensen and Mike Grace.
Kyle Kudroch broke it open at 5:19 of the third with an unassisted effort to stretch the Plattsburgh lead to 4-0.
Potsdam (1-2-0, 0-2-0 SUNYAC) broke up the shutout late in the game as Adam Place netted his first of the year from Sy Nutkevitch and Erick Ware.
Josh Leis earned the win in his first start of the season between the pipes for the Cardinals. Leis recorded 20 saves, including 13 in the second period. Potsdam goaltender Dylan Ellis suffered the loss, allowing four goals on 41 shots.
Plattsburgh remains on the road next weekend for two conference games. The Cardinals head to Fredonia on Friday for a rematch of last year’s SUNYAC Championship at 7 p.m. before travelling to Buffalo State for a 7 p.m. start on Saturday.
