BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team fell 4-3 at Buffalo State, suffering its first loss of the season in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
Buffalo State (3-2-0, 3-2-0 SUNYAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal Drew Klin at 14:11 of the first period. Plattsburgh answered at 18:45 as Patrick Jobb scored his first of the year from Ryan Craig and Alex Jensen, ending the first period with the teams tied at 1-1.
Buffalo State's Trevor McKinney was able to get one under the crossbar and give the Bengals a 2-1 lead early in the second. Plattsburgh made a goaltending change at 5:20 of the second as Mathieu Cadieux came in to relieve Josh Leis after Dave Lansdowne's goal made it 3-1 in favor of the Bengals.
The Cardinals got one back at 7:49 of the second when Jake Mooney buried his second of the season. Mike Grace and Nick Jensen assisted on the Plattsburgh goal.
The Bengals regained a two-goal lead at 12:25 when Justin Knee took a shot from beyond the blue line that beat Cadieux and found the back of the net. Plattsburgh (3-1-0, 3-1-0 SUNYAC) answered back 1:52 later when Vick Schlueter scored a
power-play goal from Jobb, but the Cardinals were unable to score the equalizer in the final minutes of play.
Plattsburgh outshot the Bengals in the first two periods, finishing the night with a slight 28-26 advantage in shots on goal. Leis made seven saves in the first 25:20 in the Plattsburgh net. Cadieux stepped in between the Plattsburgh pipes for the rest of the night, recording 15 saves and suffering the loss. Buffalo State goaltender Kevin Carr stopped 25 shots to improve to 3-2-0 on the year.
The Cardinals look to rebound in their home opener on Friday when Brockport arrives at the Stafford Ice Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
