Boxscore

FREDONIA, N.Y. (Nov. 11, 2011) – The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team tallied four goals in the third period en route to a 7-3 win against Fredonia Friday Night at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

The Cardinals (3-0-0, 3-0-0 SUNYAC) appeared to be in trouble early, facing a 2-0 deficit midway through the first period after Fredonia received goals from Bryan Ross and Brian Doust. But Plattsburgh bounced back with two quick goals later in the period, swinging the momentum in favor of the visiting Cardinals. Alex Jensen scored his first collegiate goal at 13:41 to put Plattsburgh on the board. Kyle Kudroch found the back of the net 24 seconds later to send the teams to the locker rooms tied at 2-2.

Nick Jensen netted the next two for Plattsburgh with his first of the night coming on the power-play at 2:33 of the second period. Mike Grace picked up his fifth assist of the season on the go-ahead goal. Jensen struck again with just 51 seconds gone in the third, scoring the game-winner from Ryan Craig.

It was all freshmen from that point on as three Cardinal newcomers lit the lamp. Mark Constantine continued his hot start, scoring his fourth of the year at 1:33 of the third from Kyle Taylor and Paul Puglisi. Jake Mooney and Jordan Gidaro followed with their first goals in a Plattsburgh uniform.

Plattsburgh went 4-for-9 on the power play while 15 different players registered at least a point in the victory. Fredonia (3-3-1, 1-2-1 SUNYAC) went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Cardinals finished the night with a 33-25 edge in shots on goal.

Josh Leis recorded 22 saves in his second win between the pipes for the Cardinals. Fredonia goaltender Mark Friesen made 26 stops – 17 of which came in the second period.

Plattsburgh wraps up its trip to Western New York tomorrow night with a 7 p.m. game at Buffalo State.
