RYE, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team scored four power-play goals, as the Cardinals skated to a 5-2 win over Manhattanville at the Playland Ice Casino. Plattsburgh improves to 10-1-1. The Valiants drops to 9-4-1.
Teal Gove scored her ninth of the year from Kristen Bond at 6:02 of the first period. Manhattanville retaliated with a goal of their own seven minutes later from Haleigh Hutchinson, tying the game at 1-1.
It was all Plattsburgh in the second period as Gove and Steph Moon each tallied a power-play goal, stretching the Cardinals’ lead to 3-1 after two periods.
Manhattanville’s Lauren Nutkevitch scored a power-play goal at 3:48 of the third period to cut the Plattsburgh lead to 3-2.
The Cardinals’ power-play attacked again at 6:28 of the third with Kara Buehler picking up her fourth of the season from Bond and Moon. Helen Giroux tacked on one more goal at the 9:55 mark to round out the offense for Plattsburgh.
Moon finished the afternoon with a goal and three assists. Bond recorded three assists and Megan DiJulio assisted on two Plattsburgh goals.
The Cardinals outshot Manhattanville, 35-22. Mandy Mackrell recorded her seventh win of the year with 20 saves. Manhattanville goaltender Emy Cote stopped 30 shots on the afternoon.
