Oneonta hands Plattsburgh road loss, 70-54

ONEONTA, N.Y.
— Oneonta took a nine-point lead into halftime and clung onto it throughout the second half as Plattsburgh State fell to the Red Dragons Friday in State University of New York Athletic Conference action, 70-54.

Kathleen Payne was 6-for-15 shooting, netting a game-high 21 points. She was the only Cardinal in double digits in scoring in 27 minutes of play. Kerri Salisbury tallied nine points, as she went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Samantha Szkotak's 15 points were a team-high for Oneonta. Gabi Regan and Kate Wilverding had 13 points apiece for the second-place Red Dragons.

The Cardinals outrebounded Oneonta, 42-34, but were plagued by a shooting percentage of just 30.8 percent (16-for-52). Oneonta also stood tall defensively, forcing 18 Cardinal turnovers and blocking nine shots.

The Red Dragons led, 45-36, at halftime and outscored the Cardinals, 25-18, in the second half. With the win, Oneonta improved to 14-3, 8-2 in the SUNYAC. The Cardinals drop to 6-9, 3-6 in the SUNYAC.

Plattsburgh moves on to square off against New Paltz Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
