Boxscore

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team fell behind early and could not solve a Cortland team that upset the Cardinals, 2-0, in front of 1,786 at the Stafford Ice Arena.  The shutout marks the first-ever for the Red Dragons against Plattsburgh, snapping the Cardinals’ 12-game unbeaten streak.

Cortland (4-13-2, 3-7-1 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early 1-0 with just 20 seconds gone in the game on Jarrett Gold’s fifth of the year.  Jake Saville and Peter Lompado pick up assists on the goal.

The Red Dragons made it 2-0 when Joey Christiano picked up a puck as he returned to the ice from a penalty and beat Plattsburgh goaltender Josh Leis on the breakaway.

Despite applying pressure at numerous times in the game, the Cardinals could not cash in their opportunities.  Plattsburgh held a 40-16 advantage in shots.  Leis made 14 stops, falling to 12-2-1.  Cortland goalie Brittan Kuhlman had 40 saves in the shutout.

The Cardinals (13-5-1, 6-5-0 SUNYAC) return to the ice tomorrow night, looking to rebound against conference rival Oswego at 7 p.m.
