Cardinals Narrowly Escape Bears

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - With 30 seconds left in the game and the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team trailing the visiting Potsdam Bears, 74-75, Errol Daniyan tossed up a layup and gave the Cardinals a one-point advantage. Two missed free-throws by Potsdam's Olando Minott, along with two made shots from the charity stripe by Plattsburgh's Chris Ruizand another by Steve Thomas would secure a 79-75 victory for the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh records holds at 16-7 for the year, 11-5 in State University of New York Athletic Conference place, while Potsdam drops to 3-20 overall, 2-13 in the conference.

After leading 36-30 at halftime, Plattsburgh came out strong in the second and improved its lead to eight (61-53) with just over nine minutes left to play. The Bears cut that lead to one by scoring seven unanswered points and pulled ahead at the 5:35 mark thanks to two successful free-throws by Minott. The two teams would continue to juggle the lead until Daniyan's shot in the last minute.

Daniyan matched his career-high of 27 points, set earlier in the season at Brockport (1/22), and paired that with 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Ruiz followed with 18 points and Thomas sank 15. Carl Munnerlyn topped the team with five assists.

For the Bears, Benjamin Walker racked up 24 points, Edward Cross sank 14 and Minott contributed 10. Anthony Williams Jr. lead the squad with five boards and three steals.
