OSWEGO, N.Y. -
Chris Ruiz scored 25 points on his way to leading the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team to victory over the hosting Oswego Lakers, 81-66. Ruiz went 8-for-10 from the field, 5-for-5 from behind the arc and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe during the game.
Plattsburgh moves up to 14-7 on the year, 9-5 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference. Oswego now has a 10-11 record overall and is 4-10 in the SUNYAC.
The Cardinals scored 10 unanswered points right out of the gate, beginning with a layup by
Errol Daniyan 20 seconds into the game.
Farris Thomas followed up with a jumper and Ruiz hit two three-pointers before Stanley Francois finally put the Lakers on the scoreboard. Francois made two free-throws after being fouled by the Cardinals'
Carl Munnerlyn on his way to the basket.
Plattsburgh pulled ahead by 16 (25-9) with just over 10 minutes left in the first, its largest lead of the contest. The Cardinals never trailed the Lakers during the 40-minute contest.
Along with Ruiz's 25 points, he also pulled down eight boards, dished out three assists and recorded one block and one steal. Munnerlyn sank 17 points for Plattsburgh and
Steve Thomas made 12. Daniyan led the team with 10 rebounds.
Francois topped the Lakers with 13 points, followed by Jose Uribe with 12 and Ryan Sheridan with 10. Chad Burridge racked up eight rebounds.
Plattsburgh wraps up its weekend road trip at Cortland tomorrow. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
