Turnovers Plague Women's Basketball in Loss to New Paltz

Cardinals fall to Hawks in SUNYAC opener for both squads

Boxscore and Play-by-Play

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--The Plattsburgh State (2-3 overall) women's basketball team committed a season-high 44 turnovers on Friday evening during a 67-55 home loss to New Paltz (2-3) at Memorial Hall in the State University of New York Athletic Conference opener for both schools.

Plattsburgh's Taylor Amarando scored a game-high 16 points and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds, to go along with three steals. Kathleen Payne and Lindsey Larivee added 11 points apiece.

Zoe Cohen came off the New Paltz bench to hit for a team high of 16 points, followed by Alex McCullough with 13, and Kaitlin Clifford and Maliqua Fisher each had 10. McCullough also had 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Despite the turnovers and poor shooting for most of the game, the Cardinals were still within four points, 50-46, with 5:19 remaining after going on a 12-2 run keyed by Kerri Salisbury, who scored five of her six points during a 3 minute stretch.

But the Hawks finished the game with a 15-7 spurt to seal the victory.
