OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego scored two goals in the final two minutes of play to defeat the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team, 5-3, in front of a sellout crowd at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The Cardinals fall to 2-2-0, while the Lakers improve to 6-0-0.
Oswego jumped to a 2-0 lead with a goal from Luke Moodie and a power play goal from Andrew Mather.
The Cardinals fought back as Nick Jensen score his second goal of the season from Patrick Jobb and Cody Adams at 16:14 of the first period. Kyle Kudroch tied the game at 2-all with a power play goal at 17:12 from Ryan Corry and Paul Puglisi.
Following a scoreless second period, Oswego’s Tyler Leimbrock gave the Lakers a 3-2 on his first of the year at 7:59 of the third period. But the Lakers lead did not last long, as Dylan Clarke notched a power play goal about a minute later to tie it up.
Ian Boots broke the tie with the game-winning goal at 18:21, followed by an empty net goal from Owen Kelly in the final minute of play.
Oswego held the advantage in shots, 41-25. The Cardinals went 2-for-6 on the power play.
Josh Leis suffered the loss, making 36 saves. Oswego goalie Paul Beckwith had 18 stops.
The Cardinals return to action next Saturday, November 13 in their home opener against Morrisville at 7 p.m.
