Cardinals Comeback to Top Cortland in SUNYAC Hockey

CORTLAND, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey fought back from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Cortland Red Dragons, 7-3, at Alumni Ice Arena.  Patrick Jobb recorded two goals and assisted on another to help the Cardinals improve to 2-1-0 overall and in conference play.  The Red Dragons fall to 1-2-0.

Cortland’s Jake Saville scored at 7:13, followed by Ryan Durocher’s first of the season 29 seconds later to give the Red Dragons a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

With a power play, Plattsburgh pulled goalie Josh Leis for the extra attacker, allowing Ryan Corry to put the Cardinals on the board at 4:55 of the second period.  Five minutes later, Jared Docking scored a short-handed goal from Kyle Taylor to tie it up 2-2.

Daniel Cobb recorded his first collegiate goal at 15:04 of the second, followed by an unassisted goal from Eric Satim, which would prove to be the game-winner.

Cortland tried to fight back with a goal from A.J. Moyer at five minutes into the third period, cutting the Plattsburgh lead to 4-3.  The Cardinals put away the Red Dragons with three unanswered goals, two from Jobb and one from Mike Grace.

The Cardinals outshot Cortland, 41-22.  Cortland went 0 for 1 on the power play, while Plattsburgh converted two of their five power play opportunities.

Josh Leis picked up the victory for the Cardinals with 10 saves.  Cortland goaltender Dan Jewell made 34 stops in the losing effort.

Plattsburgh travels to Oswego to continue conference play tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
