PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey picked up their first win in four games, defeating the Fredonia State Blue Devils 4-2 in front of a crowd of 1,716 at the Stafford Ice Arena. The Cardinals improve to 3-4-0, with the Blue Devils dropping to 3-6-0.
Plattsburgh struck first at 16:15 of the first period on a goal from Cody Adams form Kyle Kudroch and Mike Kavanagh.
Fredonia answered with 27 seconds left in the period to tie the game at 1-1 when Marc Deeley scored his first of the year from Billy Sanborn and Bryan Ross.
The Cardinals scored two goals within ten seconds to break up the tie early in the third period. Ryan Corry recorded his second of the season, followed by the eventual game-winner from Kyle Kudroch.
The Blue Devils attempted to get back in the game on a power-play goal from Mat Hehr at 8:06 of the third, but Plattsburgh’s Patrick Jobb found the back of the net for his third of the year to secure the victory.
Plattsburgh held the edge in shots, 35-26, but went 0-for-4 on the power-play. The Blue Devils converted one of five power-play chances.
Josh Leis made 24 stops in his second win. Fredonia goalie Mark Friesen stopped 31 shots.
