NEW YORK--Nora Campbell had team highs of 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Kathleen Payne added a career-high 10 rebounds off the bench, but it wasn't enough to lift the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team on Friday as the Cardinals lost to host New York University, 79-40, in the first round of the NYU Tip-Off Tournament at Jerome S. Coles Sports Center. Plattsburgh drops to 1-1 on the season while the Violets improve to 2-0. 

NYU had four scorers in double digits including Maggie Ely who had 19 points to pace all players. Bianca Storts added 14 points, followed by Kelly Loughney with 11 and Tana Bertino, 10.     

Plattsburgh dug itself an early hole with a first half marred by turnovers and poor field goal shooting. The Cardinals made only 23.1 percent of its shots while NYU converted at a 48.5 clip to hold a commanding 47-14 lead at the intermission.
