BUFFALO, N.Y. - The hosting Buffalo State Bengals defeated the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team, 50-43, in a State University of New York of Athletic Conference game. The Cardinal fall to 2-7 for the season, 0-3 in the SUNYAC, while the Bengals rise to 5-3 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
While Buffalo State jumped out to an early lead thanks to a three-pointer to begin the game by Staci McElroy, Plattsburgh soon took over and went ahead by as much seven before the Bengals tied things up with 11:27 left to go in the first half. The lead would flip-flop between teams during the final minute before halftime, but it would be the Bengals that would walk off with a 22-20 advantage.
In the second, Plattsburgh would tie the game twice before finally pulling ahead at the 16:53 mark when Taylor Amarando sank a layup for the Cards. For the majority the rest of the time remaining in the contest, the Cardinals would hold a slight advantage over their hosts until Buffalo State tied the game for the 10th time with 5:31 left to go.
From that point on, Plattsburgh managed to sink only three free-throw shots, while the Bengals saw two three-pointers in a row from Kristin Rich, followed by a layup by McElroy and two made free-throws by Jessica Clark to give the team a seven point lead and the win.
All said, Taylor Amarando recorded her second-straight double-double for the Cardinals. Amarando sank 13 points and pulled down 14 boards. Casey Clark was second on the team with seven points and six rebounds. Catherine Cassidy dished out a game-high five assists and topped both teams with three steals.
For Buffalo State, McElroy also recorded a double-double, consisting of 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Alyssa Kinney pulled down a game-high 13 boards.
The Cardinals wrap up their roadtrip to the western-half of the state tomorrow at Fredonia. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
