BUFFALO, N.Y. - Plattsburgh State scored four goals on the power play to back first-year goaltender Josh Leis' first career shutout in a 7-0 victory Friday at Buffalo State in State University of New York Athletic Conference men's hockey action at Bengal Ice Arena. The No. 3-ranked Cardinals improve to a 5-1 record both overall and in the SUNYAC, while the Bengals drop to 1-6-1 and 1-5. BOXSCORE
The visitors have gone 9-0-1 in their last 10 SUNYAC road games dating to the 2007-08 season.
Dylan Clarke scored the first of his two goals on the night in the first period to provide all the offense that Leis would need, who stopped all 18 shots he faced. Leis becomes the first Plattsburgh freshman to record a shutout since Bryan Hince two seasons ago.
Leading 2-0 after the first period, the Cardinals blew the game open by scoring four of the final five goals--by Mike Kavanagh, Chris Wieland, Clarke and Dan Sliasis--with the man-advantage. Plattsburgh scored four times in nine power play opportunties and killed off all six Bengals attempts.
Plattsburgh outshot Buffalo State 34 to 18.
