Cardinal Women Fall to TCNJ in NCAA First Round

Amherst, Mass. - Though they fought hard through the rainy, muddy conditions, the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team failed to find solid footing against the College of New Jersey Lions and lost, 2-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Cardinals end their season with a record of 10-6-3, while TCNJ continues on with a record of 17-2-1.

TCNJ scored early in the fifth minute of play when Jillian Casey booted the ball into the side of Plattsburgh's goal unassisted off a rebound. Brittany McGinley followed up in the 32nd minute with an insurance goal for the Lions after receiving a cross from the right side from teammate Allyson Anderson.

The Lions kept the Cardinals from recording any shots during the first half, though they did post 12 of their own. Overall, TCNJ outshot Plattsburgh 25 to three. Plattsburgh posted the better shots on goal ratio however, as they forced Lion goalie Jessica Clark to make two saves while Alina Greiser grabbed six for the Cardinals.

Kristie Pageau booted two of Plattsburgh's shots, while Emily Riley took the other. Both recorded one shot on goal apiece.

Today's contest marked the second time the Cardinals have made it to the NCAA Tournament, the first time being in 1995.
