Tom Thompson enters his 12th year as Plattsburgh State’s Academic Coordinator in 2025-26. As the Academic Coordinator, Thompson is responsible for monitoring the academic progress and eligibility of all student-athletes.
He works in collaboration with the coaches and athletics administrative team to provide academic support and acts as a liaison to other campus resources and support services. Thompson also works closely with student-athletes on academic advising, finding and applying for internships, and nominating those who are eligible for academic awards or other recognition. Thompson serves as the advisor to Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Student Athletes’ Honor Society, and is responsible for inducting a new class of honorees each spring.
Thompson is a Plattsburgh native and proud Cardinal alum, having earned both a Bachelor's (Speech Communication/Writing) and a Master of Arts (Administration Leadership) degrees from the college. As an undergraduate, he was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), the National Leadership Honor Society, and named to “Who’s Who Among Students at American Universities and Colleges.” Thompson also serves as the Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services on campus. He was the 2021 recipient of the Athletic Director’s Award for excellence in service to the department.
Thompson enjoys reading, watching sports (especially NHL hockey), and spending time with family, friends, and his seven-month-old Shetland Sheepdog puppy, Sam.
